Master Renfrow began martial arts training at the Chou Con Di compound when he was a little boy. He attained the rank of Rokudan by the age of 16 and left the compound around age 20 to return to his family in America. After moving to Rutland with his wife and two children he met Terry and became his teacher. Master Renfrow eventually accepted that he would not be able to continue Chou Con Di training in the US because his students had jobs and families and so could not live with him and come to class all day every day. To accommodate this reality of training in the US, Master Renfrow broke his ties with the Chou Con Di system and founded his own system, Whe Chun. The Whe Chun system integrates the basics of the original Chou Con Di training with the realities of training part-time students. Master Renfrow continues to teach Terry and helps him grow the Whe Chun system into the community service organization that the Chou Con Di system was in Mongolia.
